Two Arrested for Motorcycle Theft during Hurricane Debby

The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office arrested a pair of men for motorcycle theft during Hurricane Debby.

On August 5, 2024, two subjects removed a motorcycle from a location in Riverview, loaded it into the back of a van, and left the area. The Auto Theft Unit tracked the van as it left the area and recovered the motorcycle a short time later.

Two men, Dariel Sanchez, 29, and Yoel Luis Espinosa Nuñez, 28, committed the theft. Detectives found a loaded Glock 17 pistol and several burglary tools in their vehicle.

Sanchez, the driver, was charged with:

  • Possession of Burglary Tools

  • Criminal Mischief $1,000 or More

  • Grand Theft Use of Motor Vehicle

  • Grand Theft Motor Vehicle During State of Emergency

  • Possession of Firearm During Commission of a Felony

Espinosa Nuñez was charged with:

  • Possession of Burglary Tools

  • Criminal Mischief $1,000 or More

  • Grand Theft Use of Motor Vehicle

  • Grand Theft Motor Vehicle During State of Emergency

"It takes a special kind of criminal to take advantage of the community during a state of emergency," said Sheriff Chad Chronister. "While residents were sheltering from the winds and rain, these two felons looked to profit. Let this serve as a warning: the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office won't allow criminals to take advantage of residents during any weather condition."

This investigation is ongoing; any updates will come from the Public Affairs Office.
