The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office arrested a juvenile for bringing a loaded firearm to Leto High School located in Tampa.
On February 17, 2025, at 8:25 a.m., an HCSO School Resource Deputy made contact with Alonzo Bridges, 16, after a school administrator activated a Centegix alert upon noticing a suspicious bulge between Bridges' arm and ribcage.
An administrative search was conducted, revealing that Bridges was in possession of a loaded handgun with 15 rounds in the magazine and one in the chamber.
The suspect refused to provide any information regarding how he obtained the firearm.
Alonzo Bridges is now facing the following charges:
- Possession of a Weapon on School Grounds
- Minor in Possession of a Firearm
"I can't stress this enough: bringing a gun to school is not only dangerous, it's unacceptable. One bad decision could have changed lives forever today. Thankfully, the school staff and our deputy acted quickly to stop a potential tragedy," said Sheriff Chad Chronister. "This reckless behavior will not be tolerated, and we will ensure that anyone who endangers our schools is held accountable."
The investigation remains ongoing. Any further updates will be provided by the Public Affairs Office.
