The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office is conducting a death investigation following a fatal plane crash.

On September 3, 2026, at 8:17 a.m., HCSO's 911 dispatch center received a call about a plane crash off of U.S. Highway 301 and Maislin Drive. Deputies arrived minutes later and found the plane on fire in a wooded area. Hillsborough County Fire Rescue arrived and extinguished the fire.

Two bodies were found inside the plane. The pilot has been identified as David Siambanes, 59, and the passenger as Dawn Stone, 53. Next of kin has been notified.

"This is a tragic loss, and our hearts go out to the loved ones of both victims. We appreciate the work of the first responders who arrived on scene quickly," said Sheriff Chad Chronister. "We will continue working closely with our federal partners as this investigation moves forward."

NTSB and the FAA are handling the plane crash investigation.

This is an active investigation. The Public Affairs Office will provide any updates.
