The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office has arrested an Armwood High School student for bringing a weapon onto school property and resisting arrest.
On October 21, 2024, at 1:47 p.m., an HCSO School Resource Deputy received a tip from administration that Kwami Milton, 14, had brought a firearm onto campus.
When approached by the deputy, Milton refused to comply with commands to drop his backpack and attempted to flee down the hallway.
The deputy successfully arrested Milton after deploying a taser.
A search of Milton's book-bag was conducted and revealed a Sig Sauer 9mm handgun.
Kwami Milton is facing the following charges:
- Possession of a Firearm on School Property
- Resisting an Officer Without Violence.
"Bringing a weapon onto a school campus is not only illegal but endangers the lives of students and staff and will not be tolerated in Hillsborough County," said Sheriff Chad Chronister. "This incident could have resulted in far more dangerous consequences. We are committed to ensuring that our schools remain safe environments for everyone."
Milton has been taken to the hospital for medical clearance before being transferred to the Juvenile Assessment Center.
This is an active investigation, and any further updates will be provided by the Public Affairs Office.
