The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office was awarded a traffic safety subgrant in the amount of $225,000.00 by the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) for Triple L: Listen, Learn, and Live Motorcycle Education and Safety Program.

The purpose of the program is to educate motorists in Hillsborough County about motorcycle safety and to conduct high visibility enforcement activities in an effort to decrease motorcycle crashes.

The funding will be used to support enforcement activities and distribute educational materials to drivers.

Florida motorcycle rider fatalities represented 10.9% of all fatalities in the United States. The Traffic Safety Facts 2021 Data-Motorcycles reported that Florida had 612 total motorcycle rider fatalities, the highest of any state in 2021.

In a December 2023 analysis of the top 26 most populous counties in Florida, Hillsborough County ranked number 2 by FDOT for total injuries and fatalities for motorcyclists between 2018 and 2022.

The contract was executed on November 18, 2024 and the program will run through September 30, 2025.
