The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office has arrested a student for bringing a firearm onto school property.
On February 18, 2025, at 10:30 a.m., an HCSO School Resource Deputy contacted Jason Henson, 18, after receiving a tip from school administrators that Henson reportedly had a weapon inside his vehicle in the student parking lot of Sumner High School.
An administrative search of the vehicle was conducted, and a loaded firearm was found inside the center console.
Henson refused to provide any information regarding how he obtained the firearm.
Jason Henson was arrested and charged with one count of Possession of a Weapon on School Grounds.
"I am grateful for our deputy and the school staff’s quick response, ensuring this dangerous situation was handled before anyone was harmed," said Sheriff Chad Chronister. "Students need to understand that bringing a gun to school is not only reckless; it carries serious consequences. There is absolutely no place for weapons in our schools, and we will continue to take swift action against anyone who puts students, teachers, and staff at risk."
The investigation remains ongoing. The Public Affairs Office will provide any further updates.
