Patient Care Technician Arrested for Theft

The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office has arrested a patient care technician employed at HCA Florida Brandon Hospital.

On January 22, 2026, Bailey Slater, 28, an employee at the hospital, stole a 94-year-old patient's wallet. Slater used the victim's credit cards to rack up more than $500 in purchases that same day. HCA Florida Brandon Hospital identified the misconduct and worked closely with detectives to ensure Slater was held accountable.

A warrant for Slater's arrest was issued, and she turned herself in to Orient Road Jail on January 30, 2026.

Slater is being charged with Petit Theft First Degree ($100 or More, but Less Than $750), Unauthorized Use of Credit Card Under $300 (x2), and

Fraudulent Use of Personal Information of an Elderly Person (x2).

"Taking advantage of some of our most vulnerable community members while entrusted with their care is shameful and reprehensible," said Sheriff Chad Chronister. "We will make sure justice is served, and we hope anyone considering this kind of behavior understands they will be held accountable."

This is an active investigation. Any updates will come from the Public Affairs Office.
