The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office is working with the Plant City Police Department and the Polk County Sheriff’s Office on an incident that crossed into multiple jurisdictions on Wednesday morning.
Just before 11:15 a.m. on Wednesday, January 15, deputies were called to a home on the 4000 block of Cooper Road in Plant City for a reported carjacking. A resident said a male and a female traveling in a silver pick up truck knocked at his door and pointed a gun at him when he answered, demanding the keys to his blue Toyota Tacoma. The resident complied and was not injured. The suspects were last seen fleeing northbound on Cooper Road.
The suspects in the carjacking are the same two suspects who were involved in an incident in Plant City a short time prior where they rammed the vehicles of Plant City Police officers, causing the PCPD officers to fire shots at them.
HCSO deputies quickly began to follow up on leads and track the suspects, who were ultimately located in Polk County and shot by Polk County Sheriff's Office deputies.
HCSO deputies were not involved in either shooting incident. Any additional information on the officer-involved shootings in Plant City or Polk County, in addition to information on the names and conditions of the suspects involved, should be directed to the Plant City Police Department and the Polk County Sheriff’s Office.
