The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office arrested a woman entrusted with the care of a hospice patient after deputies uncovered a case of financial exploitation.
On March 4, 2025, at approximately 4 p.m., deputies responded to a delayed fraud report in the 14000 block of Clubhouse Circle in Tampa. The victim, who is receiving hospice care, reported being defrauded by a home health assistant employed to assist with daily needs.
Through investigative means, deputies identified the suspect as Shawn Livingston, 57, an employee of a home healthcare company. Livingston allegedly convinced the victim to use Zelle for service payments and then manipulated the transactions, transferring money to her accounts, paying her creditors, and making payments to Carnival Cruises, ultimately stealing more than $7,000. Deputies discovered the fraud began on January 28, 2025.
On March 7, 2025, deputies arrested Shawn Livingston, who is now facing the following charges:
- Exploitation of an Elderly Person (Misuse of Account)
- Fraudulent Use of Personal Information Over $5,000 (10 but Less Than 20 Victims)
- Grand Theft – Third Degree ($5,000 - $10,000)
- Fraudulent Use of a Credit Card Over $100
- Uttering a Forged Instrument (x2)
"The actions of this individual are unacceptable and despicable. Preying on a hospice patient, someone who relies on others for care and support, is a heartless and disgraceful betrayal," said Sheriff Chad Chronister. "We are committed to protecting our most vulnerable residents. Let this serve as a clear message: this kind of abuse has no place in our community, and we will do everything possible to bring those responsible to justice."
This is an ongoing investigation. The Public Affairs Office will provide any updates.
