On Wednesday, November 28, 2023, the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office's Criminal Investigation Division was alerted to a series of alarming online threats targeting the Hillsborough County Tax Collector's Office.
Through rigorous investigation and diligent efforts, detectives identified Travis Leigh, 40, as a suspect.
Detectives responded to Leigh's residence, and admitted to transmitting written threats, expressing his intent to cause harm to the Tax Collector’s Office because he was frustrated with their customer service.
"We take any threat against our public institutions and their employees very seriously," said Sheriff Chad Chronister, emphasizing the gravity of the situation. "Our detectives acted swiftly and efficiently to ensure the safety of all involved and to uphold the integrity of our community institutions."
Travis Leigh was arrested and is faced with the charge of Written or Electronic Threat to Kill or Do Bodily Injury.
