Captain Zuly Stearns began her career in law enforcement when she joined the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office in 2000 as a patrol deputy in District 2. She was born in Havana, Cuba and grew up in Tampa, Florida. She has served in many areas of the Sheriff’s Office including Patrol, School Resource, Recruitment and Screening and in the Polygraph Unit. Captain Stearns has served in supervisory roles including Patrol, Traffic Unit and Community Outreach.
Currently, Captain Stearns serves as the Commander of the Communications Bureau and Records Division. She holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Criminology from Saint Leo University and a Master of Arts in Human Services with a concentration in Marriage and Family from Liberty University. Additionally, Captain Stearns is a graduate of the National Public Safety Innovation Academy's 4th Class.
