Captain Sam Bailey began his career as a law enforcement officer with the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office in 2004.
As a deputy, he served in Patrol and Street Crimes before being promoted to detective, where he worked undercover, in General Offense and as part of the District Intelligence Unit.
Captain Bailey advanced to the rank of Corporal, supervising units such as Homicide, General Offense, and Juvenile. He was later promoted to Sergeant, serving as a frontline supervisor for both the Homicide and District Intelligence Unit. As a Lieutenant, he served in the Special Investigative Division and Patrol Services before being promoted to his current role as Captain of the Community Outreach Division in August of 2025.
Throughout his career, Captain Bailey has been recognized for his exemplary service and dedication. His honors include Squad of the Quarter, a Life Saving Award, and the Distinguished Service Award for his pivotal role in apprehending a serial rapist in 2007.
Captain Bailey is a proud graduate of Florida State University and the Senior Management Institute for Police. He remains committed to serving the residents of Hillsborough County through leadership, innovation, and community engagement.
