Chief Deputy Joseph Maurer began his career with the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office in 2007. He has served in many areas of the Sheriff’s Office including Patrol, Street Crimes, Criminal Investigations Division and Professional Standards Section. Chief Deputy Maurer has served in supervisory roles including Field Training Supervisor, Professional Standards Section, District Patrol Shift Commander, the Tampa Bay Regional Intelligence Center, Deputy District Commander, Special Investigations Division Commander and the Colonel of the Department of Patrol Services.
Chief Deputy Maurer is a combat veteran of the United States Army, where he served as a Non-Commissioned Officer and Officer in the Infantry and Intelligence Branches. He holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice Administration from the University of Phoenix and a Master of Business Administration with a concentration in Economic Crime and Fraud Management from Utica College. Chief Deputy Maurer is a Doctoral Candidate of Public Administration at California Baptist University. Additionally, Chief Deputy Maurer is a graduate of the Police Executive Research Forum's Senior Management Institute for Police 93rd Session.
Chief Deputy Maurer is proud of his Hispanic heritage and is fluent in the Spanish language. Chief Deputy Maurer and his wife Indira have five children.
