  • Complaint to Remove Persons Unlawfully Occupying Residential Real Property, ‘Squatter’

HB 621 – “Squatter Law” Instructions

The Squatter Law applies to extreme and unique circumstances where someone has taken over your property without your permission. This process does not take the place of a normal landlord/tenant eviction and does not apply to businesses. If you believe you are a victim of a person(s) unlawfully taking over your property, and are entitled to have the occupants immediately removed, a deputy will respond to your residence and remove the occupants. Before this can happen, you will need to complete a complaint form, provide a copy of your identification, and pay a $90.00 fee.

  1. Print the form titled “Complaint to Remove Persons Unlawfully Occupying Residential Real Property, ‘Squatter’” from this download link. (LINK)
  2. Complete the form in its entirety ensuring all fourteen (14) lines are checked off and the form is signed. The form will need to be notarized. The Civil Process Section can provide a notary for page 3 if you wish.
  3. Go to the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office Civil Process Section located at 700 East Twiggs Street Tampa, FL 33602 (3rd Floor) to have your paperwork processed. Hours of operation are Monday – Friday, 9am to 4pm. You will need to have your government issued identification and a $90.00 processing fee payable via cash, cashier’s check, money order or credit card.
