Deputy-Involved Shooting Investigation

 Update: November 2, 2025, 9:30 p.m.:

The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office has identified the suspect involved in today’s deputy-involved shooting.

On November 2, 2025, at 2:04 p.m., deputies responded to a call regarding a domestic violence incident in progress. The caller advised that the suspect, Mario Camacho, 27, was armed with a knife and choking their 7-year-old brother.  

Once on scene, the suspect barricaded himself with his brother in a back bedroom. Deputies heard the child screaming for help and kicked down the door. Deputies encountered the suspect, who was holding a knife and refusing to let go of the child. The suspect was wearing a motorcycle helmet and two tactical vests with ballistic plates. After several commands to drop the knife, our deputy shot the suspect, rescuing the brother. 

The suspect was transported to Brandon Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased at 2:47 p.m.

The deputy involved is Antonio Gonzalez, 25, and has been with HCSO for just under six years, spending five years as a Detention Deputy and 11 months as a Law Enforcement Deputy. 

Deputy Gonzalez has been placed on administrative leave with pay pending completion of the investigation.

The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office is on the scene of a deputy-involved shooting on the 100 block of Alpine Drive in Brandon. 

On November 2, 2025, at 2:04 p.m., deputies responded to a call in reference to a domestic violence in progress. The caller advised that the suspect was armed with a knife and choking their 7-year-old brother.  

Once on scene, the suspect was barricaded in a back bedroom. Deputies heard the child screaming for help and kicked down the door. Deputies encountered the suspect, who was holding a knife and was refusing to let go of the child. Our deputy shot the suspect, rescuing the brother. 

The suspect was transported to a local hospital and pronounced deceased. 

This investigation will be conducted by the FDLE.
