The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office arrested a man after he shot an individual in the back and attempted to flee the scene in East Tampa.
On October 19, 2026, at 1:49 p.m., our 911 Dispatch Center received reports of shots fired in the roadway leading into the Netpark business complex near the 6200 block of East Hillsborough Avenue.
During the investigation, detectives learned the man fired a gun at two individuals as they fled on foot. Shortly after, one of the individuals arrived at a nearby hospital with a gunshot wound to the back. The victim’s injury was non-life-threatening.
Deputies learned the suspect, Timothy Carter III, 23, was seen nearby, and they quickly located and arrested him. Detectives found the firearm in a nearby trash can.
As the investigation continued, detectives learned Carter had been released from prison in May 2026 after serving time for Carjacking With a Firearm. It was also determined that Carter had an active warrant issued by the Tampa Police Department on October 8, 2026, for Robbery With a Firearm and Felon in Possession of a Firearm.
In addition to the active warrant, Carter is being charged with:
- Attempted Murder in the Second Degree While Wearing a Mask (Firearm - Discharge)
- Aggravated Battery Great Bodily Harm or Deadly Weapon Firearm
- Discharge Firearm in Public or on Residential Property While Wearing a Mask
- Felon in Possession of a Firearm (x2)
- Robbery With a Firearm (Less Than $750)
- Tampering With Physical Evidence
“As a convicted felon, this individual has no business possessing a firearm,” said Sheriff Chad Chronister. “To then shoot someone in the back shows just how violent this criminal truly is."
The investigation remains ongoing, and the Public Affairs Office will provide any updates.
