Emergency Landing Ends Safely

The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office responded to a late-night emergency landing after a pilot experienced mechanical issues with a single-engine aircraft.

On March 3, 2026, at 10:37 p.m., #teamHCSO’s Dispatch Center received a call from the Tampa International Airport Police Department about a single-engine aircraft with only the pilot on board attempting an emergency landing.

While trying to land on Weaver Lane, the aircraft struck a power line and a tree before landing near Weaver Lane and Rockhill Road.

Thankfully, the pilot was not injured and was evaluated on scene by Hillsborough County Fire Rescue.

“When the pilot lost engine power and was forced to make an emergency landing, our deputies responded immediately to secure the scene,” said Sheriff Chad Chronister. “Thankfully, the pilot was able to walk away without serious injury. Thanks to the swift coordination between Tampa International Airport Police, Hillsborough County Fire Rescue, and our deputies, this situation was handled quickly and safely. Partnerships like these make all the difference when seconds count.”
