The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office is conducting a death investigation of an inmate who passed away Monday.
On July 28, 2020, Kai Summers, 42, was booked into the Orient Road Jail.
Days later, on August 2, Summers' health declined, and she was taken to Tampa General Hospital for evaluation. She had previously been diagnosed with a host of medical issues. At 2:57 p.m. on August 3, Summers was pronounced deceased.
The Medical Examiner's Office took custody of the body. Next of kin has been notified.
This remains an ongoing investigation and no other details are available at this time. Updates will be released from the Public Affairs Office.
