The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office has arrested a man for abducting a missing Tennessee juvenile and sexually exploiting her following a multi-state investigation.
On July 28, 2026, the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office became involved in a missing person investigation out of Tennessee after deputies received information that the missing juvenile may have traveled to Hillsborough County.
Deputies contacted the registered owner of the suspect vehicle, who said the truck was primarily driven by his brother’s son, Edgar Perez Hernandez, 23. Deputies were also provided an address where the vehicle was believed to be located.
Deputies responded to the residence and learned Perez Hernandez had been at the location with the missing juvenile but had already left. HCSO's Special Victims Section was immediately notified.
On that same day, detectives were able to make contact and recover the missing juvenile. The juvenile disclosed that while traveling from Tennessee to Florida, she was sexually abused by Perez Hernandez at multiple locations across several states, including within Hillsborough County. The juvenile was later safely reunited with her mother.
On July 29, 2026, with assistance from multiple law enforcement partners, detectives learned Perez Hernandez was attempting to flee to Mexico by bus. The Texas Department of Public Safety located the bus and conducted a traffic stop. Texas State Troopers arrested Perez Hernandez.
Perez Hernandez has been charged with the following:
- Interference with Child Custody
- Lewd or Lascivious Molestation
- Lewd or Lascivious Conduct
- Use of Computer Services or Devices to Solicit Certain Illegal Acts
- Traveling to Meet a Minor After Use of Computer Services or Devices to Solicit Certain Illegal Acts
- Unlawful Use of a Two-Way Communication Device
- Sexual Battery (x4)
"This case is an example of how quickly law enforcement agencies can come together across state lines to protect a child and hold a dangerous offender accountable," said Sheriff Chad Chronister. "Because of the determination of our detectives and the strong partnerships we have with agencies across the country, this young victim was safely recovered before the suspect could escape. We remain committed to pursuing those who prey on children, no matter where they run."
