  • Attempted Murder in the Second Degree Firearm Great Bodily Harm (x2)

The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office responded to reports of shots fired near 4202 South Falkenburg Road during what was described as a road rage incident.

Around 5 p.m., two parties traveling northbound got into an altercation where one driver fired a weapon at the other vehicle.

One of the bullets struck a 16-year-old female passenger of the other vehicle. She is currently at TGH with non-life-threatening injuries. The two drivers are not injured.

HCSO's Gunfire Response Investigations Team is on the scene investigating how many shots were fired and what led up to the shooting.

"There is simply no excuse to endanger a life because of a disagreement with another driver," said Sheriff Chad Chronister. "There is absolutely no reason for an innocent 16-year-old to be in the hospital because of a road rage incident."

At this point, it is believed to be an isolated incident. Deputies are in contact with all parties and conducting interviews.

This investigation is active, and updates will be provided by the Public Affairs Office when they are available.
