The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office is introducing a new artificial intelligence-powered tool to assist deputies with report writing, alleviating administrative duties so they can spend more time serving the community.
Axon Draft One is designed to generate a preliminary report narrative using audio recorded by a deputy's body-worn camera.
At this time, the tool will be used only for non-criminal calls for service and will securely transcribe and organize the deputy's account of the incident, streamlining report writing.
The tool relies on audio narration, so deputies must clearly describe events and observations on camera to ensure all relevant details are captured.
Deputies are required to carefully review, edit, and approve every report before it is submitted.
The system includes built-in prompts that highlight areas where more detail may be needed, and deputies must make substantive edits to ensure the final report accurately reflects the incident.
“We are committed to embracing innovation and leveraging technology in ways that enhance operational efficiency,” said Sheriff Chad Chronister. “Axon Draft One is an example of how we continue to evolve, pairing advanced technology with proper training and oversight to enhance efficiency while maintaining the highest standards of professionalism and accountability. Our deputies remain fully responsible for every report, and this tool simply allows them to focus more time on protecting our community.”
All information processed through Draft One remains within Axon's secure system and is not shared with public AI platforms. At this time, the tool will be used only for non-criminal calls for service.
