The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office arrested a 54-time convicted felon after detectives discovered he had a firearm.
On February 9, 2026, at 9:28 p.m., deputies responded to a residence in the 12900 block of Gordon Road in Riverview in reference to a reported barricaded subject, identified as Kenneth Allan Smith, 54.
During the investigation, deputies learned that Smith called a witness and made several threats.
Deputies also discovered that Smith is a 54-time convicted felon, with multiple prior battery convictions as well as a previous sentence for being a felon in possession of a firearm.
On February 10, 2026, detectives learned that Smith had firearms inside his bedroom. A residential search warrant was obtained and served, which revealed that Smith had a firearm.
The HCSO Gang Unit observed Smith leaving the residence at which time he was taken into custody without incident.
Smith is now facing one count of Resisting Without Violence and one count of Felon in Possession of a Firearm.
“Individuals with extensive violent criminal histories who continue to disregard the law will be held accountable,” said Sheriff Chad Chronister. “Our deputies and detectives acted quickly to ensure this individual no longer had access to a firearm, prioritizing the safety of our community.”
This remains an active investigation. The Public Affairs Office will provide any updates.
