
UPDATE: March 6, 2025:
The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office has arrested an individual in connection with the fatal shooting at Plantation Park in Tampa on March 4, 2025.
On March 5, 2025, detectives interviewed multiple witnesses, leading to Anthony Cabrera Morales, 18, being identified as the shooter. Cabrera Morales was arrested without incident.
Cabrera Morales is charged with:
- Attempted Murder in the First Degree Premeditated Firearm - Great Bodily Harm
- Murder in the Second Degree Firearm - Great Bodily Harm/death
"This arrest cannot undo the tragic loss of life, but I'm proud of our detective's hard work in finding and arresting this individual quickly," said Sheriff Chad Chronister. "Acts of violence in our community will be met with a swift response, and we will bring those responsible to justice."

ORIGINAL RELEASE: March 4, 2025:
The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office is investigating a homicide at Plantation Park off Parkcrest Drive in Tampa.
On March 4, 2025, at 7:24 p.m., HCSO's 911 Dispatch Center received a call about shots being fired at the park. Deputies arrived and found two adult males suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. Both victims were transported to the hospital. One adult male, Brian Jones, 19, succumbed to his injuries. The second victim is in stable condition.
Through the course of the investigation, detectives learned a fight broke out during a basketball game, which led to the shooting.
"A basketball game should never lead to a senseless act of violence such as this," said Sheriff Chad Chronister. "Our detectives are doing everything they can to find out who is responsible for this heinous crime."
