The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office has arrested a tenth-grade student at Spoto High School for bringing a weapon, ammunition, and marijuana on campus.
On Friday, September 1, 2023, a School Resource Deputy at Spoto was alerted to the smell of marijuana coming from a bathroom. While inside the bathroom, a search revealed a black Sig Sauer P320 9 mm handgun, 22 rounds of ammunition, and marijuana.
The weapon was determined to be stolen from a vehicle in HCSO's District Five (Riverview, Brandon area).
The student, Tyvon Levit, 16, has been charged with:
- Possession of a Weapon on School Property
- Resisting An Officer without Violence
- Possession of Cannabis Less Than 20 Grams
"Let this serve as yet another reminder: if you bring a weapon onto a school campus, you will be arrested,” said Sheriff Chad Chronister. "Students and staff deserve to attend classes without worry of violence so they can focus on their education."
In addition to HCSO's investigation, Levit is also under investigation by the school.
This is an active investigation; any updates will come from the Public Affairs Office.
