Former Music Teacher Arrested for Inappropriate Relationship with a Student

The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office has arrested a former teacher from Grace Christian School for having an inappropriate relationship with a student.

On July 3, 2024, detectives were notified of a sexual battery by an authority figure involving a confidential pregnant 18-year-old victim.

Denzel Proctor, 26, a former music teacher at Grace Christian School, began an inappropriate relationship in 2022 with the victim, who was 16 years old at the time.

During an interview with detectives, the victim disclosed that she had engaged in a sexual relationship with Proctor both on and off campus between 2022 and 2024, which resulted in her becoming pregnant.

Proctor resigned from Grace Christian School in December 2023. Following Proctor's departure, rumors of the allegations were reported to the Department of Children and Families by the school.

On July 10, 2024, an arrest warrant was issued for Proctor, and he was arrested without incident.

"This man preyed upon a vulnerable teenager, violating the trust of our community. Such betrayal is especially devastating when it comes from someone expected to serve as a mentor,” said Sheriff Chad Chronister. “I hope that this victim can heal from the trauma caused by this man and take advantage of the resources available to her.”

Anyone with information on this case, or if someone believes they may have been a victim of Proctor, please call HCSO at 813-247-8200.

This is still an active investigation. The Public Affairs Office will release any update.
