Over $50,000 of Silver Coins and Bars Recovered in Burglary

Following a burglary investigation, the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office made an arrest and recovered over $50,000 in silver coins, bars, and firearms.

On November 8, 2024, at 10:12 p.m., deputies responded to a burglary of a residence on the 2100 block of Herndon Street in Dover. Three firearms were reported stolen from the residence. During the investigation, detectives identified Justin Reeves, 34, as a possible suspect.

Our Targeted Crime Unit located Reeves driving in Dover and was able to apprehend him after they observed a traffic violation on November 13, 2024. He was arrested for Possession of a Controlled Substance and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

During a search of Reeves' vehicle, deputies found heavy bags containing a large quantity of collectible silver coins and silver bars. Detectives continued their investigation and learned the coins and silver bars were taken from an unreported burglary within Hillsborough County. Detectives were able to contact the elderly victim and learned they were out of town during the burglary.

Detectives also searched Reeves' residence, where they found two of the three stolen firearms, along with additional coins and silver bars. Reeves is a 10-time convicted felon who was recently released from prison in August 2024.

"Thanks to excellent investigative work by our units, we were able to return stolen property to its rightful owners," said Sheriff Chad Chronister. "Our top priority is keeping our community safe and making sure brazen criminals like this one are held responsible."

Reeves has been charged with:

  • Armed Burglary of a Dwelling
  • Burglary of an Unoccupied Conveyance
  • Felon in Possession of a Firearm
  • Grand Theft Firearm X3
  • Grand Theft
  • Grand Theft Second Degree
  • Dealing in Stolen Property
  • Possession of Controlled Substance
  • Possession of Drug Paraphernalia

This is an active and ongoing investigation; any additional information will come from the Public Affairs Office.
