Hillsborough County Public School Security Officer Arrested for DUI

The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office has arrested a school security officer with Hillsborough County Public Schools for driving under the influence.

On November 16, 2024, at 3:24 a.m., a deputy conducted a traffic stop after seeing a vehicle swerving from the lane on Sunforest Drive and Eisenhower Boulevard in Tampa. The deputy found the driver, David Cruzado, 57, displaying signs of impairment.

Cruzado was arrested after showing signs of impairment during a field sobriety test. Cruzado also blew a .168 and a .175 during two breath tests. Cruzado was wearing his school security uniform and had his gun belt and gun in the vehicle at the time of the arrest.

Cruzado has been charged with:

  • DUI Over 0.15

“This incident involving a school security officer is deeply disappointing,” said Sheriff Chad Chronister. “His decision to drive under the influence endangered our community and is unacceptable—especially for someone entrusted with the safety of our schools. He will be held accountable for his actions.”

This remains an active investigation. Updates will be provided by the Public Affairs Office as they become available.
