The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office has arrested two juveniles following the discovery of a loaded firearm on the campus of King High School.
On Friday, November 15, 2024, a teacher alerted an HCSO School Resource Deputy after witnessing a student pass a firearm to another student. When the deputy approached the individuals, they ran.
Deputies observed Kevin Reese, 16, discard the firearm before surrendering to law enforcement. Through investigative means, deputies learned the firearm was recently reported stolen in a burglary. The teacher identified Arthur Thompson, 14, as the student they saw hand the firearm to Reese.
Both students were arrested and face the following charges:
Kevin Reese, 16
- Minor in Possession of a Firearm
- Possession of a Firearm on School Property
- Possession of a Stolen Firearm
- Resisting Arrest Without Violence
Arthur Thompson, 14
- Minor in Possession of a Firearm
- Possession of a Firearm on School Property
- Possession of a Stolen Firearm
"The presence of any weapon on school grounds is deeply concerning and will not be tolerated," said Sheriff Chad Chronister. "Our commitment to safeguarding students and staff across our schools remains steadfast. Those who bring weapons into places where they do not belong will be held accountable."
This remains an active investigation. Updates will be provided by the Public Affairs Office as they become available.
