Perform managerial, administrative, and supervisory duties in planning, organizing, directing, or assisting in the direction of accounting activities.

Manage assigned accounting and financial functions, programs, and systems.
Establish operational priorities and coordinate operations with other agency functions to ensure program objectives and standards are established, attained, and consistent with overall agency goals.
Lead specialized accounting projects and studies.
Schedule, assign, monitor, review, and evaluate the work of assigned staff.
Develop and recommend new and revised statutes, rules, policies, and procedures based on operational program needs, objectives, and priorities.
Determine and request staff, material, and equipment needs to contribute to the formulation and justification of budgetary requests for the agency.
Analyze and audit accounting and fiscal data, records, and reports.
Direct and coordinate the preparation of various accounting and financial statements, summaries, and reports.
Direct the maintenance of subsidiary and general ledgers of assigned programs.
Direct the development, modification, and installation of accounting and internal auditing systems.
Direct pre-auditing functions and other related accounting and clerical accounting activities.
Perform other related duties as required.
Knowledge of governmental accounting and auditing principles, practices, procedures, methods, and theory.
Working knowledge of the specific accounting and reporting requirements and complete accounting cycle.
Knowledge of management methods, techniques, and practices.
Working knowledge of budgetary procedures and controls.
Working knowledge of computerized accounting systems.
Ability to establish and maintain effective internal and external working relations.
Ability to schedule, assign, monitor, review, and evaluate the work of assigned staff.

Ability to interpret accounting and auditing principles and procedures.

A high school diploma or possession of a GED certificate.
Four years of experience in bookkeeping or financial recordkeeping.
Four years of experience as a professional accountant in a supervisory capacity.

An associate's degree from an accredited institution of higher education with a major in accounting.
Two years of experience in bookkeeping or financial recordkeeping.
Four years of experience as a professional accountant in a supervisory capacity.

A bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution of higher education with a major in accounting or finance.
Four years of experience as a professional accountant in a supervisory capacity.
OR
A bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution of higher education with a major in accounting or finance.
Certification as a Certified Public Accountant.
Three years of experience as a professional accountant in a supervisory capacity.

A master's degree from an accredited institution of higher education in an accounting or finance.
Three years of experience as a professional accountant in a supervisory capacity.
A passing score on pre-employment testing.
Attendance at the specified Sheriff's Office work location is required.
Depending on assignment, employees may be required to possess a valid Florida Driver License at time of employment. Driving history will be thoroughly reviewed and may be grounds for disqualification.
