On November 30, 2009 at approximately 11:45 a.m. at the intersection of West Hanna Avenue and Eden Lane, the victim Miguel Gomez was walking his dogs.  The two defendants identified as Christopher Rodriguez and Emanuel Rodriguez (cousins) exited a green two door Honda Civic with firearms.  Emanuel Rodriguez approached the victim and pointed a .40 caliber handgun at him.  Both defendants attempted to rob the victim of his possessions.  Defendant Christopher Rodriguez approached behind Emanuel Rodriguez while pointing a 9mm handgun at the victim.  A struggle ensued with the victim attempting to grab Emanuel Rodriguez’ firearm at which time Emanuel Rodriguez shot the victim two times.  The victim fell to the ground in the middle of the intersection of West Hanna Avenue and Eden Lane.  Emanuel Rodriguez then began to flee back towards the vehicle while Christopher Rodriguez approached the victim who was lying on the ground, stepped to the side of the victim and shot the victim two to three more times.  The suspects then fled the scene. The victim was transported to Town and Country hospital where he died.

 

Based on information developed during the course of the investigation detectives were able to identify both suspects.  Both suspects were arrested at their residence on December 15, 2009 without incident and charged with First Degree Murder.
