A 1988 Chevrolet Celebrity was northbound on 30th Street SE and approaching 21st Avenue SE when the driver ran a stop sign and entered the intersection.

At the same time a 1999 Ford Expedition was eastbound on 21st Avenue S.E. and entered the intersection. The front of the Expedition collided with the driver's side of the Chevrolet. The impact sent the Chevrolet into a utility pole.

 

The three occupants of the Chevrolet died at the scene. (All were wearing safety restraints).

 

The driver of the Ford Expedition was Eduardo Herrera-Loa, DOB 1/15/65, of

2402 33rd Street S.E., Ruskin. He was tranported to South Bay Hospital, treated for minor injuries and released.

 

There are indications that Mr. Herrera-Loa had consumed alcohol prior to the crash, and results of a DUI investigation are pending.
