On November 17, 2009 at approximately 2:30 p.m.  the suspect Christopher Hanney confronted the victim, his estranged wife, inside their shared residence which is located at 7565 Oxford Gardens Circle in Apollo Beach.  The suspect then applied flammable liquid upon the victim.  The suspect then struck the victim in the head with a hammer and ignited the flammable liquid.  The victim ran from the residence with her clothing fully engulfed in flames to a neighbor’s residence that extinguished the flames and rendered assistance to her.  The victim stated that her husband Christopher “had done this to her”.

 

Deputies arrived on scene and discovered the husband, Christopher in the backyard of the residence and he also had suffered burns.  Both victim and suspect were transported to local hospitals.  The victim remains in the hospital and Christopher was released on November 18, 2009 where he was then transported to Orient Road Jail and booked on Attempt First Degree Murder.
