Why/How:

Deputy Michael Hannaford was on routine patrol in a marked unit, heading westbound on US 92 at near Mobile Villa Dr. The victim was on the south side of US 92 when he rode his bicycle directly into Deputy Hannaford's path of travel, making it impossible for Deputy Hannaford to stop in time. The victim was struck by Deputy Hannaford's vehicle and severely injured. He was quickly transported by Hillsborough County Fire Rescue to Tampa General Hospital where he later died from his injuries.
Preliminary reports from the hospital indicated the victim had a blood alcohol level (BAC) of .27 at the time of the crash.
