On October 29, thousands of people will light candles, bow their heads in   silence, and take a stance against the destructive forces of drug abuse in dozens of vigils across the country for the third-annual NOPE National Candle Light Vigil. One of the vigils will be held in Hillsborough County at the Faith Outreach Center. The vigil is in memory of those lost to drugs and alcohol related deaths and those suffering from the disease of addiction.

Recently retired Florida Office of Drug Control Director Bill Janes will discuss the strategies NOPE and the authorities are using to fight back against prescription pill abuse. Families will share the pain of losing their loved ones to drugs. Poster boards and a video will show the faces and stories of teenagers and adults who died of drug poisoning.

“Through awareness we can help open the doors to recovery by eliminating the prejudice that has followed the disease of addiction,” said NOPE’s Executive Director Karen Perry. “The memory of our children, our relatives and our friends who have passed will live on in our hearts, forever honored and memorialized.”
