UPDATE:  Suspect Timothy Jerome Thompkins has been arrested in connection with the Deputy involved traffic crash.  The suspect turned himself in to Falkenburg Rd Jail today.  He is currently being booked into the jail.

Around 8:56 p.m. tonight, Deputy Brian Craig was in a marked patrol car and traveling westbound on Gibsonton Drive when another vehicle pulled in front of him. The other vehicle, a Pontiac Grand Am, was eastbound on Gibsonton Drive and made a turn to access northbound Interstate 75. The impact caused major damage to the deputy's cruiser. After the crash, the driver and occupant of the Pontiac ran from the scene. A search is under way for those individuals.

The deputy sustained minor injuries and was taken to University Community Hospital as a precaution.
