Deputies arrested a burglary suspect after undercover detectives set up a sting to buy a stolen bicycle. The victim had reported to HCSO that someone had stolen her $870 bicycle from her garage on October 7, 2009. On October 8, the victim told deputies that she had located her stolen Giant Avail bicycle on Craigslist as being for sale. She recognized the bicycle as hers because she had replaced the factory handlebars with some special ones. The victim and detectives made contact with the seller, who referred to himself with an alias, and he agreed to sell the bicycle on October 9. A sting was set up for the parking lot of the Sweetbay supermarket at U.S. 301 and Lake St. Charles Boulevard. Around 3:45 p.m. the suspect arrived and met with two undercover deputies pretending to be husband and wife. The suspect, who identified himself to detectives with the alias, wanted to sell the bike for $670. The undercover detectives examined the bike, pretending to do an inspection prior to purchase. The bike's serial number matched the one provided by the victim.

As other detectives moved in to make the arrest, the suspect ran. He was cornered within minutes and taken into custody. The bicycle was returned to its owner.
