Hero’s Award Ceremony

Please join us for this honored occasion where HCSO Employees and Citizens from the Tampa Bay area will receive outstanding recognition awards. Here is a list of just a few of the awards that will be presented.

Sheriff David Gee will be presented with a HCSO Flag and American Flag flown during active combat in Iraq. The flags were flown together by HCSO Deputy Richard Burton who proudly served in Iraq while on military leave. Were happy and proud Deputy Burton safely brought both flags back home.

Deputy Anthony Bennett will receive a Life Saving Award. In June 2009 Deputy Bennett witnessed a car strike a tree along the Veterans’ Expressway. The car caught on fire and the semi-conscious driver was trapped. The deputy along with a 10 Connects video photographer who stopped, pulled the driver out of the car just before it was consumed by fire.

The Military Order of World Wars will present Deputy Malachi Maccoy with the Military Law Enforcement Bravery Award for his bravery in stopping a gunman during a shoot out with law enforcement deputies in the Carrollwod area in late 2008. Deputy Maccoy has still not returned to full duty due to injuries he sustained in the gun battle.

Medal of Distinguished Performance presented to Deputy Steve Gutierrez who single handedly chased and captured two armed home invasions suspects while back-up deputies were en-route.

Life Saving Award to deputies and a Hillsborough County Water Department employee who found a detention deputy training outside the Falkenburg Jail having a heart attack. The deputies and the Water Department employee utilized an AED device and saved the deputies life.

These awards along with many others will be presented at the ceremony and we hope the media will be able to attend.
