PROJECT LIFESAVER AND LOJACK BRING HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE AND TAMPA POLICE DEPARTMENT SEARCH & RESCUE SERVICE TO HELP LOCATE INDIVIDUALS WITH COGNITIVE CONDITIONS AND TEND TO WANDER
On Friday, September 4th 2009, the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office and Tampa Police Department will roll out and demonstrate the Project Lifesaver/LoJack SafetyNet Service. The service is designed to track and rescue those with cognitive conditions who tend to wander. It answers a critical need for protecting people at risk of wandering, including those with Alzheimer’s, autism, Down syndrome and dementia. Working together with Project Lifesaver and LoJack SafetyNet, both agencies will now have additional tools needed to help search and rescue personnel quickly and efficiently find those who have wandered off, helping to save the lives of people at risk in this community.
Individual enrolled in the service will wear a LoJack SafetyNet Personal Locator Unit (PLU) on their wrist or ankle. The PLU constantly emits a Radio Frequency (RF) signal, which can be tracked regardless of where the person has wandered—even into a densely wooded area, a marsh, a concrete structure such as a garage, or a building constructed with steel. When a person goes missing, caregivers notify locally trained agencies and they are dispatched to the wanderer’s area with their portable, handheld LoJack SafetyNet Search and Rescue receivers.
Please join Hillsborough County Sheriff Colonel Greg Brown, Tampa Police Department Captain Cherie Adkins, members of the “Crisis Center of Tampa Bay Inc.”, “Center of Autism and Related Disabilities at USF”, “Hillsborough County Dept of Aging” and all the community sponsors who’ve helped bring Project Lifesaver and LoJack SafetyNet to the Tampa Bay area. |
