Today, detectives from the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office arrested Michael Jon Ervin,Jr. on 2 counts of Aggravated Manslaughter of a Child. These charges result from the deaths of his children Zionna Ervin, age 18 months and Kaden Warren, age 5 months. This case has been an extremely difficult one. The investigative process has been very lengthy and is ongoing. Detectives from the Sheriff's Office met and consulted with the Medical Examiner's Office and State Attorney's Office on several occasions. They have conducted numerous interviews, reviewed a number of medical records and examined physical evidence. As a result of the investigation to date, has been determined that while the children were in the exclusive care, custody and control of Michael Ervin on the afternoon of August 13, 2009, they were exposed to extreme environmental temperatures for an extended period of time. The Medical Examiner Dr. Vernard Adams, has determined the cause of death for both children to be Environmental Hyperthemia.
A warrant was issued for Michael Ervin today and he was picked up at his residence and charged with 2 counts of Aggravated Manslaughter of a Child.
