Charges: Grand Theft Auto, Burglary Auto and multiple counts of Violation of Probation
On 06/23/09 at 12:50 am, the victim Kristin Daniels and her boyfriend Bruce Cook were shopping at Wal-Mart at 2701 Fletcher Ave. Unknown to Cook, he had a hole in his pants pocket and the car keys to his girlfriend’s car, a 2008 Toyota Corolla fell to the floor.
Beverly was also inside Wal-Mart when he observed Cook’s car keys fall out of his pants pocket and picked them up without Cook noticing. When Cook realized he had lost his keys, he immediately began looking for them. While Cook searched for his keys, Beverly quietly followed Cook until Cook walked out to the parking lot and looked through his car’s windows for his keys. Cook then went back inside the store while Beverly and an unidentified male jumped in Cook’s car and drove away.
On August 10 the victim’s car was located abandoned in the University Club Apartment Complex in Tampa. When the car was recovered, pawn records and a cell phone bill belonging to Beverly were recovered inside the car. During the investigation Auto Theft Detective Chuck Reichard noticed Beverly renting a video from the Red Box Video Booth outside of Wal-Mart during the same time the car was stolen. Now with the Beverly’s personal papers recovered from inside the stolen car, Detective Reichard subpoenaed the transaction records from Red Box Video’s and positively identified Beverly. This led investigators back to the University Club Apartment where Beverly was located and arrested.
