HCSO deputies spotted three juveniles running in a neighborhood early this morning where residents had reported multiple vehicle burglaries. The juveniles, wearing black clothing and carrying backpacks loaded with stolen property, were detained and arrested for breaking into 11 vehicles in the Fishhawk Ranch subdivision in Lithia. Deputies caught the juveniles at Fishhawk Crossing Boulevard and Bridge Crossing Drive around 3 a.m.
One of the juveniles told detectives they would roam the neighborhood and ''car hop'' - street lingo for checking the door handles of vehicles for unlocked cars and trucks. The juvenile said they also targeted vehicles that did not appear to have an alarm. The juveniles would car hop vehicles parked in driveways. The juveniles stole loose change, radar detectors, GPS units, sunglasses, and IPods/MP3 players. Total value of the stolen property was about $1,500.
The juvenile also told detectives that they targeted this neighborhood because they knew lots of residents left their vehicles unlocked and valuables inside.
The juveniles arrested (each charged with vehicle burglary, 11 counts; grand theft; and petit theft).
