On July 20th, 2009 at 4:33 p.m., an HCSO deputy was involved in a two car traffic crash with injuries.  According to the deputy and an independent witness, the HCSO deputy was stopped at the red light north bound on SR 39 at SR 60. When the traffic light turned green, the deputy pulled into the intersection and was struck by a 1989 Chevy pick up truck travelling west bound on SR 60. The independent driver, who witnessed the accident, confirmed the 1989 Chevy pick up ran the red light.

After impact, the hog trailer was dislodged from the deputy’s truck and ended up in the intersection. The hog inside the trailer was not injured. The deputy received minor injuries and was checked out at the scene and released. Robert Gray was transported by ambulance to Lakeland Regional Hospital in stable condition where he was admitted with lacerations and possible internal injuries. The hog was transferred to another trailer and continued on to HCSO holding pen.  Gray will be charged with running a red light.
