On July 6th and 7th, 2009 the STAR Units conducted Operation Firecracker throughout Hillsborough County.  The operation consisted of members of the STAR Unit, Reserve II Deputies, District and Fusion Center ILP Detectives and Florida Department of Correction.  The objective of Operation Firecracker was to conduct compliance checks and searches of violent felony offenders who are on conditional release and or curfew in order to gather intelligence for use in solving current and future crimes. 

 

Operation Firecracker yielded the following:

 

111 total offenders were contacted and interviewed

17 arrested (2 that were out on probation for 2nd degree Homicide were violated on new charges)

3 Search warrants were written and executed which resulted in the impounding of 3 handguns, one shotgun and numerous rounds of ammunition
