Deputies Capture Three Suspects, End Armed Robbery Spree
HCSO deputies combined teamwork, communication and sharp eyes to capture three teenagers involved in an armed robbery spree late Sunday evening in northwestern Hillsborough County.
Here are synopses of the three robberies:
#1: Time: 10 p.m. Location: Parking lot outside Kobe Japanese Steak House, 14401 N. Dale Mabry Highway Victim: male, age 16 Synopsis: The victim and his friends had finished dinner at the restaurant and he was sitting in his vehicle, talking with the friends who were in a car parked beside him. Two suspects approached the teenager, and one suspect pointed a pistol at him through the passenger window and demanded his property. The robbers took the victim's wallet, cellular telephone and IPod. Witnesses provided deputies with a partial tag of the suspects' vehicle: a black sport utility vehicle.
#2: Time: 10:23 p.m. Location: Parking lot outside Applebee's Restaurant, 15090 N. Dale Mabry Highway Victim: female, age 20 Synopsis: The victim was in her car waiting for a friend to arrive to go eat dinner. One suspect approaches her vehicle and asks for directions. The suspect produced a pistol and stuck it in her stomach and demanded her purse. The victim was shocked and frightened and said "No.'' The suspect did not get any property and left in a black SUV.
#3: Time: 10:40 p.m. Location: Parking lot outside Chili's Restaurant, 8402 Citrus Park Drive Victim: female, age 20 Synopsis: The victim was in her vehicle and parked in the "to go'' area of the restaurant awaiting change from her order when the suspects pulled up in a Black SUV and parked beside her. The suspects asked for directions to the Mall. The driver got out and aimed a pistol at the victim's head, demanding money. The victim gave the suspect her purse. The suspects drove off in the SUV.
During this crime spree, deputies developed information based on witnesses accounts of the suspects and their getaway vehicle, and voice and electronic alerts were broadcast about a black 2005 Saturn Vue. At 10:44 p.m., Deputy Damien Lavallee was in the area of Gunn Highway and Henderson Road and received the alert. He decided to check the parking lot of Wal-Mart at that intersection. Deputy Lavallee spotted the suspects' vehicle in the parking lot and saw three males outside the store. He watched as the males walked to the Saturn Vue. Deputy Lavallee positioned his patrol cruiser behind the Saturn to prevent their escape, as other deputies arrived for backup. The three subjects were taken into custody without incident. Inside the vehicle, deputies found some of the property taken in the robberies, and some marijuana. The Saturn Vue was impounded.
All three subjects are charged with the armed robbery at the Chili's, and possession of marijuana. The investigation continues as to the other cases.
