“OPERATION BELTS OR EL$E’ BUCKLE UP OR PAY THE PRICE
Effective June 30th 2009, not wearing a seat belt will become a primary traffic offense in the State of Florida. Since 2004 in Hillsborough County, more than 160 people chose NOT to wear a seat belt and died in traffic crashes.
The new Florida Safety Belt Law (316.614) states “it’s unlawful to operate a motor vehicle in the State of Florida unless each passenger and the operator are restrained by a safety belt or some type of approved child restraint device if the occupant is a child”. The fine is $101.00
On June 30th 2009 at 7:00 am, Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Deputies will kick off enforcement through out Hillsborough County.
