BUCKLE UP OR PAY THE PRICE

 

 

 

Effective June 30th 2009, not wearing a seat belt will become a primary traffic offense in the State of Florida. Since 2004 in Hillsborough County, more than 160 people chose NOT to wear a seat belt and died in traffic crashes.

 

The new Florida Safety Belt Law (316.614) states “it’s unlawful to operate a motor vehicle in the State of Florida unless each passenger and the operator are restrained by a safety belt or some type of approved child restraint device if the occupant is a child”. The fine is $101.00

 

On June 30th 2009 at 7:00 am, Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Deputies will kick off enforcement through out Hillsborough County.  For more additional information on traffic safety, teen driver tips or safety belt usage the public can contact HCSO Crime Prevention Bureau at (813) 247-8115 or visit www.hcso.tampa.fl.us
