HCSO To Honor Employees For Outstanding Efforts

Sheriff David Gee will showcase the outstanding efforts of deputies and civilians of the Sheriff's Office as we present our 2nd Quarterly Awards today at 2 p.m., Falkenburg Road Jail assembly room (520 N. Falkenburg Road).

Among the honorees: Master Deputy Chris Grecco and his canine, Bullit, will receive life saving awards and pins for locating and saving the life of a woman who had overdosed on medication and was concealed in some woods on February 21, 2009. K9 Bullit tracked to the woman, and Deputy Grecco dragged the woman from the heavy underbrush to a pasture, where a patrol unit took the woman to a waiting ambulance.

Let me know if you need additional details.

Also to be honored are Sgt. Mike Hurley, Corporal Frank Losat, and Detectives Jose Lugo, Mitch Messer and Herbert Saumell, for their bravery and actions during a chase and gunfight with a homicide suspect on December 4, 2008. The suspect, Francisco Rangel, opened fire on the deputies with a rifle, hitting two sheriff's vehicles multiple times. The suspect was eventually captured.

Another group of honorees are Sgt. Gary Wagner, Deputy Jeff Jones, Deputy Brian Lugo, Deputy Chris Maffei and Deputy John Schnake will receive life saving awards and pins for their actions during a domestic violence call on February 5, 2009. The deputies arrived at a house and observed blood on the carport. They heard a female's voice inside, then the rear bedroom erupted in flames. The deputies made forced entry through the front door, found the woman and dragged her to safety.

We will also honors retirees and employees with longetivity awards.
