On March 10, 2009, while the victim was playing in her yard a friend came over with the dog (2 year old mix – St. Bernard and Bull Mastiff).  The dog was on a chain and somehow was able to get loose and attacked the 2 year old victim.  The dog bit the child in the head.

The child was transported to University Community Hospital in Carrollwood by her parents and then due to the extensive injuries was transferred to Tampa General Hospital.  The child is in critical condition (life threatening).

The owner of the dog, David Arthur was not at the scene when the incident occurred, but returned while deputies were there investigating.  Arthur was taken into custody for an outstanding warrant (Driving While License Suspended) and was also cited for Aggressive dog and expired dog tags.

Animal Services took possession of the dog.
