On February 27, 2009 members of the Major Violators Unit intercepted a package containing approximately 10 pounds of marijuana that was en route to the residence located at 6826 Alafia Drive in Riverview. Members of the Major Violators Unit responded to the address and came in contact with Burt Temple and Penny Porter. Both defendants admitted to detectives that they were expecting a package of marijuana. Temple gave detectives consent to search his residence a safe inside his bedroom. The search of his residence and safe produced approximately 56 grams of marijuana (2 ounces) and various prescription pills. Several firearms were recovered from inside the safe to include: rifles, handguns, shotgun, over 1,000 rounds of ammunition and a ruger .22 caliber semi-auto handgun with a homemade silencer. Estimated street value of the narcotics seized is $10,000. |
