On February 5, 2009, suspect Quintin Hobbs was the victim of an armed robbery.  The robbery occurred at 2:00 a.m. after Hobbs returned to his residence from a store.  He was approached by the armed suspect and robbed of jewelry and cash ($2,300 total value).  The perpetrator of the armed robbery was later arrested for the robbery in which Hobbs was the victim.

On February 23, 2009, the co-defendant (Jermaine Smith) observed the brother of the perpetrator in the previously armed robbery on February 5th).  Smith observed the brother of the perpetrator and alerted Hobbs that he was in their neighborhood.  The brother fled in his vehicle and returned to his apartment complex – Claymore Apartments.  The suspects went to the Claymore apartments and observed the individual that fled from their neighborhood fleeing up the staircase of the apartments.  At that time, the 14 year old victim, Sauvallie Hagins (press release 09-049) was coming down the same stairs that the others had up. Hagins was taking out the trash.  Hobbs then pulled his vehicle next to Sauvallie and fired 3 – 4 shots at the victim.  Hagins was not the intended victim.

After the shooting, suspects fled the area and were later identified.  Detectives obtained warrants for their arrest and on February 25, 2009 at approximately 5:30 p.m. both suspects were arrested at their residence in Seffner.
