On January 31, 2009 at approximately 11:30 a.m. deputies responded to 1603 Emerald Hill Way, Valrico in reference to a petit theft that had occurred.   The victim, Robert Turkett reported that a suspect described as a black male walked up and grabbed a plastic bucket that contained approximately $160.00, the proceeds from a car wash fundraiser.  The money had been raised to purchase Little League Baseball uniforms.   The suspect fled on foot from the scene and jumped into an older model vehicle. 

 

During the investigation, detectives were able to identify the suspect (Leonard Obi) and this morning, February 5, 2009 detectives located Obi and he was taken into custody on the Petit Theft charges.  At the time of his arrest last night he was carrying a concealed firearm and also in possession of marijuana. 

 

**Note - Detectives at the District Two Office (Brandon) took a collection at the District to replace the money that was stolen.  As of today, February 5, 2009 the deputies have collected over $130.00.
